"Sweet By and By" is played on Pa's Fiddle at Laura Ingalls Wilder Days in Mansfield, MO. Pa's fiddle is taken out of its display case in the museum one time a year, tuned, and played for visitors.
Thank you SO much for posting this! I have read all the Little House books, and even touched the case that Pa's fiddle was stored in when the museum was much smaller in 1979. But I have never heard the fiddle played before. It brought tears to my eyes imaging the Ingalls hearing its sweet tunes! Thank you again!
Whatever religion, romance and patriotism I have I owe largely to the violin and my Father playing in the twilight. I am sure that when I come to die, if Father might only be playing for me I should be wafted straight to heaven on the strains of "The Sweet By And By," for the gates would surely open. Laura Ingalls Wilder
