THE ROAD TO EDINBURGH - The Big Comedy Campervan

"The biggest names in stand-up comedy stopped off on the Yorkshire coast en-route to the Edinburgh International Festival.

The Road to Edinburgh (The Big Comedy Campervan) is a brand new comedy extravaganza features an exciting line-up of 7 comedians who will be performing at Edinburgh this year. Yorkshire audiences will be amongst the first to hear their new material.

Amongst the line-up of top comedians at the event were Stewart Lee, Richard Herring, Phil Nichol, Jack Whitehall and Shappi Khorsandi. The night was hosted by Yorkshire comedian Alun Cochrane."

Stewart Lee headlined with roughly 25 minutes of new material.

Originally on the BBC Two show Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle, Lee described Adrian Chiles and The One Show as "like being trapped in the buffet car of a slow-moving express train with a toby jug".

This clip follows more commentary from Stewart Lee about Chiles and his ITV £6 million salary. The clip also includes a running section about Lee's family love of crisps.

This material belongs entirely to Stewart Lee and I claim no ownership over this clip.

  • This looks like quite a big venue, hope lee isnt selling out!!

  • @greyreview

this was the venue was the scarboroughopenairtheatre [dot com]

But it was certainly not the capacity, more like the centre section. Probably no more there than would be at the forthcoming event in Leeds which should be attended.

  • yeah you must have one of those fancy, new cameras

  • @s0673451

  • Nice video. Did you film this on your toaster?

  • Thanks for the upload

I don't know how you managed to smuggle a box brownie into the venue but well done.

Next gig you go to,you might want to consider upgrading to a super 8 cine camera.

  • @pragmatismnotidealis no you wouldnt, you'd have a halfpenny..and they havent made those in nearly 30yrs.

  • If I had a pound for every pixel on this screen I'd had one pound.

  • I was there and I cried laughing. Thanks so much for sharing this.

  • I hear he loves it when you record his new material on your camera phone.

  • @KangoTV No my comment wasn't Ironic, I said that stewart lee has said he prefers doing smaller gigs to people who know he is joking, and lee is probably my favourite comedian is because he doesn't have to swear, prance about the stage and talk loudly and fast to make people laugh, and he can back up his comedy with his own intelligence, that's all

  • @greyreview So your sell out comment was ironic which I stupidly took at face value? Either way I've enjoyed some of Lee's comedy and if intimacy is the path he wants to take, fair play to him. Good to have variety. But I do have a nagging suspicion about the clever-cleverness of his followers. There are other intelligent comedians in the world who play to big crowds and don't dumb it down one bit. So why has it been decided that Lee is so special?
