Hatsumode at Fushimi Inari Taisha (2007)

Hatsumode (初詣) is the first shrine/temple visit of the new year. Right before 12:00am, people assemble in front of the main offering hall (that's the big crowd you see at the beginning of the video) and wait to rush up so they can ring the bell and give their first offering of the New Year.

Oh, and about that semi-naked man. I have no idea who he is, but he was there, so we filmed him. Enjoy!

My friends older sister did this on an exchange. She said it was very worth the hike, the soar ankles and the wait. I hope to go someday.
