In order to correctly represent D&D, we should have Angel Summoner, BMX Bandit and Ninja Sniper.
Ninja Sniper is the cleric. While the Wizard can do just about anything, the Cleric can still kill stuff at any range better/faster than either him or the fighter.

I play a sorcerer and I have to say I'd take a well geared fighter who can act on his own and make his own decisions than a bunch of summoned whatever. One buffed fighter is a mean mean thing.

Curiously, in 4E transportation is beastly good and swords are the quickest way to kill something.

@Ratonga I used to play a melee wizard who really made the fighters feel inadequate. It was as if the Angel Summoner also owned good transportation.
