A tribute to my father Ian Thomas, bassist for The Missing Links.

"The Missing Links were a band without pretence or compromise. In 1965 when they were billed as 'Australia's wildest group' it wasn't just the usual 'industry' hyperbole or rhetoric - it was a statement of fact. And it's a fact that still holds true today ... In early 1964 nothing unbelievably wild, frenzied or manic had happened in the Australian music scene. It was just about to."
Peter Markmann

"Sydney's Missing Links were the first to play guitars like The Rolling Stones used; they were the first guys to sport very long unruly hair; they were the first group to implement destruction into a stage act; they were the first with a lot of things, bless their pioneering souls." Glenn A Baker

"They were wild, rebellious, accessible. That's how we felt on the inside, that's how they looked on the outside. Plus, their rock attitude was much more extreme than the mainstreamers. Johnny O'Keefe with his short hair and tight pants wasn't The Wild One anymore - if he ever was. The Missing Links made all Oz 'legends' look so straight. After them, even the Beatles seemed dull; the Links' genre was much more the Stones and the Animals. If Sydney was larger then, and they'd written more of their own material, who knows? If Malcolm McLaren had seen them, they would have died young, rich and famous." Richard Neville

Rolling Stone:A lot of Australian bands have named AC/DC as the band that inspired them to get started. Which Australian bands did you admire when you started?

Angus: There were a few bands that I thought were a good influence, like the Loved Ones out of Melbourne and the Missing Links out of Sydney because they were sort of blues based, and I was into that. Angus Young, AC/DC

  • Found the original song! I came here because I know the 70's cover from the Australian punk band the Saints. Great muuuuusic!

I figure out now that I was born too late and onthe wrong place on earth to have known this masterpiece before. Thankssss,

  • Cool to find "Punk" before it was labelled as Punk(T.M)!! Great stuff!!!

  • My dad saw this band many times. He immigrated from the UK where he was immersed in the british beat music scene. He still says the missing links are the best aussie band he ever saw and they were easily as good as the british bands of the day.

  • "You look so good, I could eat ya"....terrific stuff.

  • The Missing Links(Australian) were the world's first punk band. There was a U.S. band by the same name but they sounded like 100 other bands. To this day no band sounds like the OZ Links-such a great band.

  • My husband remembers when they played at Parramatta Sound Lounge.... They also lived there for a while.... My husband Gary and his brother Maurie, was friends with them all... What happen too Bobby???????????

  • My friend and I once ran a fan club for them - we were still at school so it didn't come to much, but we had a great time going to all their performances. I always remember the autograph I got from Peter Anson - it said 'The Missing Links are a rotten band and I am one of them' - wish I still had that autograph book!!

The Links and The Loved Ones were as good as anything coming out of the USA or the UK it's a pity they never got the recognition they deserved at the time.

  • I saw this band when I was young - a great band - wild dancing for all - I still have their original album

  • Good stuff, Chris Grey was one of my friends . whats he doing
