From their 1964 album, "Shut Down, Vol. 2", this song would have made a strong single since it is the quintessential "Summer Song". Instead, it was relegated to being simply an album cut. • @elasticmoon...what makes it even more amazing is that BW was nearly totally deaf in his right ear....and could STILL come up with arrangements like this! :)

  • the beach boy throw away songs are better than most group's A material. Brian's voice is in a league of it's own.

  • The theme is in F sharp major, but the bridge at 1:07 starts in in B flat major. In order to make the transition, Brian invokes a brilliant modulation culminating with an F9 chord at 1:06. The transition is smooth, as all the notes in this chord appear in the B flat major scale.

  • God bless you Brian and the Beach boys.

  • @1jimbones You are so right.

  • How --just anyone tell me, HOW did he do that last chorus?? How did he concieve it?? It's so difficult to do --much less, to do note perfect as you hear --HOW did they do it? BW, at his finest. A Masterpiece, easily equal to anything on " Pet Sounds" Wolfsky9, 65 y/o

  • great transposition!

  • W o n d e r f u l ! !

  • @Johnk662561 That's why he always mixed in mono

  • @ronaldjevans I enjoy your analysis of chord progressions there is a theory of key signatures having differant psychological connotations the key of g major pastoral the key of b major majestic the key of f sharp minor savage...

  • Of all the vocal groups I've heard, only the Fendertones have the vocal chops to do this--though I wonder if even they would try. The harmonies are so subtle--so perfect, I don't know if anyone else could ever--would ever, even try. An absolute masterpiece, with BW at his finest. Wolfsky9, 65 y/o.

  • @ronaldjevans Thanks for the analysis. I wish I knew enough about music theory to do the same. Where did you find the sheet music or chords. I'd love to try and learn it on piano.

  • @Wolfsky9 thanks Wolfsy, I was gonna correct that post as well since it was written while Brian was still touring, but thanks. Still one of my fave cuts. Classic Brian Wilson. A timeless track.
