  • I'm glad there's a society of nice people like yourselves who revive Joplin's lost works. Great job!

  • This is an epic song, but I felt the instruments didn't sound well-balanced; I give you 4 stars.

  • @NightmarishGuy of course its not balanced... theres only one string player!!! stop being mean. thats obviously the orchestration. this stuff costs money... maybe you shouldve played so it wouldnt sound so unbalanced...

  • Great job, Scott Joplin was a real musical genius, and your rendition of this work was very well executed.

  • It's my understanding that this is the only opera of Joplin's that's come down to us; the other one "a guest of honor" is considered lost. Is this correct? I have much of his stuff, but not this rag opera; i've been wanting to get them; but, it looks like only one is available!

  • I love the fact that this is a hybrid of folk, popular, and classical music and dance.

  • Can't even hear that flute in the beginning...

  • we're singing that song at school and will sing it at a concert in spring. It's awesome x3

  • @NightmarishGuy i completely agree with you big time

  • This is actually not a ragtime opera. Beautiful, though.

  • I have not heard the piece in its entirety, but I suspect that it's maybe because it's... well... not very good.

It's not that it doesn't have great ideas, or an interesting story, but much of it, like the overture, is maybe far longer than it really needs to be. It needs to be edited, refined, polished; as it is, it's very rough.

Sadly, Joplin didn't live long enough to see it performed, or to tweak it into the perfection that it really could have been.

  • this is just awesome
