yeah the transitional up to the prostatic utricle, then columnar upto to the end of the penile body, then from there on wards (inside the glans penis/urethral meatus) it is stratified suamous. These variations are due to changes in embryological development.
urethral lining changes from transitional epithelial near bladder, to columnar epithelial at proximal end of penile urethra and then to stratified squamous near the end right? do correct me please
excuse me Sir, isn't the epithelium supposed to be Pseudostratified columnar epithelium ? i'm not sure but in the book i have it is the identifying characteristic of the male urethra that they are the ones not lined by transitional epithelium :)
you are right the epithelium is stratified columnar/ pseudostratidied columnar but the distal end( shown here), is lined by stratified squamous epithelium

@m4rk89
I also think the the epithelium is stratified columnar , thats at least we laerned and saw in out histology practises .

Stratified squamous? The epithelium of the urethra is not stratified columnar? From the lumen to the basement membrane:
-Lumen
-One layer of columnar cells
-Several layers of polygonal cells (cuboidal)
-One layer of columnar cells
-Basement membrane
Is it not like this?
