From the marquee Chinese rock music compilation album "Gift", featuring all original songs to celebrate love of life, friends, and music, in commemorating Chinese hard-rock music harbinger Zhang Ju of the Tang Dynasty band; this superbly crafted record was made and released at the 10 year anniversary of Zhang Ju's passing.

I've tinkered with a tiny bit of the compilation album's images and a bit of music video from the included DVD in the album; so that the intro to this video begins with the opening of the song "Spring Silkworm" by Tang Dynasty mixed in with studio still-shots of Chinese rock icons such as Xu Wei, Zhang Chu, Gao Qi (of Overload), etc. NOTE: "Spring Silkworm" is apparently the very first studio recording of the Tang Dynasty band with BOTH Liu Yijun (a.k.a. Lao Wu) and young guitar sensation Chen Lei. The two axemen having very distinctive styles, and the contrasting guitar solos between them combine to form something that is simply beautiful and seredipitously awesome!

The GIFT is a truly crowning achievement of China's relatively small legion of rock and avant-folk music artists in their collective two decades of struggles in surviving a pop-cultural and media climate that was very largely unsupportive of rock-alternative-avant-garde-progressive artists and their unique ways of artistic expression.

I'm uploading this here on the 23rd of January, which is my mother's birthday. She narrowly survived the War of Resistance (Kangzhan), and narrowly got married and had me born. I might as well celebrate life and try to keep making gifts that keep giving. BTW: Ding Wu spearheads the chorus of the song "Gift" with, not his stratospheric Peking-opera falsetto, but with his REGULAR voice that wonderfully grabs you by the gut, and heaves you up toward the sky; and guitar extraordinaire Li Yanliang vocal expression is simply beautiful! Zhang Chu, Gao Qi, Ruan Shu, etc, etc, all are so talented!

  • This is great music.

coffeeANDtea1234: Move into the 21st century already. It appears your idea of what constitutes America and its people are as backwards and outdated as the racial slurs you employ.
