If you lived in Newfoundland, WJBK was the only Detroit station with newscasts to catch the newscast on the Tigers '84 World Series win. According to the GSN site message board, that station began to carry in late summer of 1983 (one year after) .

Not really,it's not a really a leap of logic to pick-up what he was referring to,as I'm sure that would've been the only thing that would've kept him from witnessing a World Series victory for his hometown team would be service to his country,as many young men & women did back then,including my father.
