Alex Salmond interviewed on BBC Election coverage, just as news comes through of the sensational SNP victory in Stirling, where Bruce Crawford came from 3rd to snatch the seat from Labour.

Alex is quite pleased at this news.

Ireland has a smaller fiscal deficit than the UK and a lower national debt. Even though the English like to pretend that Ireland is worse off than them - the average Irishman is still wealthier per head than the average Englishman - a situation that is not about to change any time within the next generation.

England is as poor as Ethiopia at the moment. Even Iceland is in better shape. Even Greece is in better shape than England and it has just been bailed out.
