Yikes. It's almost as if they made this a National Treasure or something. I prefer the original performance back in 2006 by a country mile. The super duper over-the-top effects distracted from Akikawa-san's singing. Anyway...
...Aki ni wa hikari ni natte Hatake ni furisosogu, In the autumn, I am the light that shines upon the crop fields. FUYU WA DAIYA NO YOU NI KIRAMEKU YUKI NI NARU-In the winter, I am the falling snow that shines as a diamond. ASA WA TORI NI NATTE ANATA WO MEZAMESASERU-In the morning, I am the bird to whose song you awake. YORU WA HOSHI NI NATTE ANATA WO MIMAMORU-At night I am the stars that watch over you. Repeat Watashi no ohaka no mae de Nakanai de kudasai/Soko ni watashi wa imasen...
Watashi no ohaka no mae de Nakanai de kudasai-Do not weep at my grave. Soko ni watashi wa imasen Nemutte nanka imasen-I am not there. I am not sleeping. Sen no kaqze ni Sen no kaze ni natte-As a 1000 winds. As a 1000 winds. ANO OOKI NA SORA WO FUKIWATATTE IMASU-I blow in the great sky. AKI NI WA HIKARI NI NATTE HATAKE NI FURISOSOGU-In the autumn, I am the light that falls upon the crop fields. FUYU WA DAIYA NO YOU NI KIRAMEKU YUKI NI NARU...In the winter, I am the falling snow...
From my understanding, Mary Frye wasn't known as author for a very long time. Japanese singer-songwriter Man Arai translated her poem into Japanese. I am very glad to know this is AKIKAWA singing: it is beautiful. I love his voice. I will try to post the phonetic words for DoyleCE next, I don't know Japanese, but found them. I love to hear him sing this. For some reason, I love to hear it in Japanese. A Japanese friend typed out the English version for me many years ago.

包まれているような感じがします。
亡き母もこんな感じで私を包んでくれて
いるのかな、と思ったりします。
亡き母を思って「おかあさん」という曲を
作りました。
お聴きいただければ、幸いです。
どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。
This song is really helpful to heal wounds in the heart...
Peace.
死者が書いた詩、まさにそう感じます。
今までに身近にいた大事な人々が空で語っているかのように思うと
自然と目頭が熱くなります。
