Steve is playing in the East Anglian one-row style. East Anglia is a region of England, where the one-row melodeon in the key of C retained it's popularity after the introduction of the now more common two row melodeon.

Well done, so much life! BTW for anyone watching this space, Before The Night Was Out is a great book of tunes, and it has plenty of very detailed notes on how the source players varied each tune, as well as detailed written suggestions of how each might be played. Highly recommended.
