  • Nice Vid.. I am training to become a suburban trainee driver in Sydney. My goal is to come back to NZ and drive trains throughout the north island. My family live in Palmy. Can you tell me...? is it easy to get jobs as a Train Driver in NZ and also i havent asked this question to my instructors yet because my training doesnt start for a few months but can i use my ticket / license in NZ. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

  • Really sorry for the late reply, at the moment I believe it's quite hard as there have been redundancies. Who knows just have to apply...FYI there are some new Diesel Electric Locomotives comming from China next year, August or September, so watch this space.

  • Pretty good vid, shame that they are the most ignored machine in Kiwirails arsenal.

The majority of drivers have their own adaptors.

  • @TheDarkFalcon

    Aha, thank you! :D

  • @bonan960623 It is kinda a mess, there are two different parts that are electrified differently; 1500 V DC between Wellington and Waikanae, and 25 kV AC between Palmerston North and Te Rapa in Hamilton. Wikipedia says operating speed 120 km/h (maximum).

  • Nice video! This is from the north island "trunk line", right? I have 2 questions about it:

What are the top line speed?

And how much of the line is electrified?

    :)

  • why do we ever bother importing petrol with this kind of technology
