Does anyone know what this is? Is it like a Status light for diagnostics or something?

There is a strange blue light that comes on inside the monitor when it comes out of standby/power save mode... (If you set windows to turn off the monitor, and once its off, you move the mouse, this blue LED comes on inside the monitor about 3 seconds before the screen displays anything. Its not anything relating to the backlighting, because the blue light fades off shortly after the desktop comes up on the screen.) If you have this monitor, you can see the blue light by looking through the vent holes at the top, slightly left of the center of the monitor.

  • Haha I never noticed this before. I just turned mine off and on again and it has the same light inside.

Call NEC and ask them. They are good people.

I remember when I was freaking out over the backlight being uneven when I first got it. They told me to run a solid white background for 24-48 hours at 100% brightness. That did the trick, and everything was uniform.

    Go NEC!

  • Hehe, :) Good to know I'm not just seeing things.

When I first unpacked mine, coming from a 17", the thing was HUGE. Have a single dead green sub-pixel, but it doesn't bother me. Amazing color accuracy, and great for everything else too.

Mine has some very slight uniformity problems, almost looks like 2 subtle grey stripes that go from the left to right side about 2/3rds down the monitor, but only visible if you focus on the mouse cursor while moving it around the screen. Otherwise perfect.

  • Those actually sound like a lot of problems.

Mine actually IS perfect in comparison. Maybe you should give NEC a call about it.

  • only 2 slight issues. ;) heh, 1 dead sub-pixel and some extremely light banding (only noticeable if you focus on something moving across the screen) :)

Nah, Its perfectly fine. Color Comp at 3-4 makes the uniformity near perfect. (With it off, Its a bit uneven.)

  • @quentinwolf the blue light you see inside is an optical wire that lights up when you have your computer and monitor in standby mode

  • @Wolfman2234 That's the thing, when the monitor is in standby, the light is not on inside. It only comes on the second the monitor detects a signal from the computer, and only stays on for a matter of 3 seconds, and goes off just after the desktop is displayed... I'm almost tempted to take the back off, but don't want to void the warranty. ;) hehe
