  • I can never hear this aria without crying! So beautiful! It is a marvellous performance from Marilyn Horne and so wonderful to see two great divas and the legendary Pavarotti together. Sutherland is like a Queen! Thank you for this!

  • @Pearlaceous In particular, the moment just after 4:40 where the voice enters over the violins, both piano, is just magical ... Also, the final few bars with Pavarotti's profile and then the exquisite high notes ... so moving, just wondrous. It really does touch the heart.

  • Pavarotti's face @6:09 Just magical.

  • I believe that Marilyn Horne should be known as a National Treasure! That's what Queen Elizabeth2 does for Englands' greats...and she dubs them as Dame......whatever the name. Marlyn "Jackie" has stopped singing at age 76, but she is doing our country a mighty service in her Foundation work. Oh "Jackie", may you live as long as you desire...You ARE A NATIONAL TREASURE!!! YOu will be remembered as a great singer and humanitarian. May God BLESS YOU RICHLY every day of your precious life!!

  • @Thewisemonkey9 Wise Monkey...how i agree with you! Just knowing that she is here in this world with us, teaching and loving as she does makes me feel that there must be hope for all of us. She is a prime example of what I call a GREAT HUMAN BEING. I think that some are already calling her the greatest vocalist of all time...she is in my daily prayers as I've written her. God gave her that voice, and HE could keep her here for a while longer if my prayers are answered. BRAVA, Jackie!

  • Marilyn (Jackie) is now 76 years of age and fighting the good fight against cancer of the pancreas. I love this person...have done a lot of reading, watching and listening, and have written to her four times with each letter coming back to me. If any of you know her address, I'd really appreciate your sending it to me.I abhor saying this this, but this wonderful human just isn't going to last forever, and I would so much love to have my last letters get to her. Anyone know how to reach her?

  • marilyn is not 75 here. she is about 55 here.

  • Words really escape me...Marilyn's heavenly, controlled, divine voice, and a real treat to hear.I first heard her sing this at the 1983 GALA at the Met....when she was a bit younger, and I say that through all the years, this voice has been polished, sweetened and smacks me right in my heart! "Jackie",LIVE FOREVER! Thanks for this wonderful post...and yes, I've read her last book to find out even more about this shining star and all she's done plus lots of pictures too! BRAVA!

  • Gloriously Heavenly! I believe Marilyn Horne to be the very finest MEZZO SOPRANO of this century and even farther ahead. Add to that the fact that she , through her Marilyn Horne Foundation, is encouraging ,teaching Master CLasses and touring various places, colleges try to not only teach but to bring back THE RECITAL! BRAVA, BRAVA,BRAVA! to a wonderful voice and human being!

  • I remember sneaking away from the family new years party to watch this performance... I was still only 14-14 years of age... this lady transfixed me... still does...

The last segment of the aria is phenomenal... a heart fit to burst from emotion and exertion.... what a truly great singer... one of the greatest in human kinds history...
