This video is not aimed at beginners and that's why I didn't bother with any explanation or tabs considering it's not a technically difficult song to play.
Instead I present my best shot at breaking down the 1931 version of the song and play it part by part with clear audio and video quality.
Also the open D tuning instead of D minor tuning is just my personal preference, even though Skip tuned it in D minor.

I hope you enjoy this video, thanks.

  • what strings are on your martin, nice work

  • @tommyquinn181 Martin strings actually! 0.11.

Great strings, not too expensive. I used to buy Elixir but damn they are pricey.

    Thanks.

  • nice shirt ! gotta love (Pink) Anderson (Floyd) Council! And where did you get the tab for this song?

  • @SaucerfulOfPinkFloyd Hehe, thanks!

I don't think there exists any tab for the original version of this song. I just listened very carefully to the song a bunch of times.

  • Thank you! You have done a great job of performing and teaching this piece. According to Cephus Skip James tuned his guitar to D minor, but my impression is that, like the other blues greats of his time, he tuned by ear, and to whatever worked for the song he was playing at the time. Your tuning certainly sounds good to me! It definitely works.

  • @LegioVIVictrix Thanks a lot. There's one lick in the song I find easier to play in D major tuning, so that's what I ended up tuning it in.
