Jim doesn't ever bring me pretty flowers Jim never tries to cheer my lonely hours Don't know why I'm so crazy for Jim Jim never tells me I'm his heart's desire
Jim, Sung by Billie Holiday

Jesus brought into the world a new emphasis on love which he demonstrated in his own life and which he made clear he expected his disciples to produce too. For him love depends on the nature of the lover rather than that of the beloved. Jesus loved because he was a loving person, not because he found attractive qualities in those he loved. His followers are to be loving people, not simply to be drawn to attractive people.

You know Im yours for just the taking Id gladly surrender myself to you Body and soul
Body and Soul Sung by Billie Holiday

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
Jesus in Matthew 22:37, NIV

I'm so weary and all alone, Feel tired like heavy stone Trav'lin', trav'lin' all alone, Who will see and who will care Bout this load that I must bear
Travelin All Alone, Billie Holiday

Say the welcoming word to God—"Jesus is my Master"—embracing, body and soul, God's work..
The Apostle Paul, in Romans 10:9, MSG

  • it could be that you're following of Christ should not be about belief or understanding or how it fits, but, rather, absconditus deus.

some might take that as a sign to be silent, rather than a logical explanation for your understanding.

God would not change Billie, nor Shakespeare, but you do? Seems unfair to the blindingly broad horizon that is Holiday or Shakespeare. God, as you say, is not the sum of wordly things. I will not pray for you, but I will pray for your congregation.

  • I don't think that it is safe to presume anything of God, I know that has gotten me into trouble in the past, God will do as He sees fit, our challenge is to follow.

    Keith

  • As an Atheist I have never heard a greater vocal artist. To me music is the closest I speak of the sacred and I mean that as a secular individual.
