Landing to Oshkosh Airventure 2009 with Diamond DA40. It was quite interesting: There was another plane landing to the same runway at the same time ahead of me. It is visible in original video, I am not sure if you can see it in the Youtube compressed version. Knowing that there was another plane close ahead, the landing demanded that I must land it exactly on the threshold, can not float at all further because there was the next plane taxiing there and also go-around would have also been very problematic and I had to release the runway very quickly because there was already next plane coming behind me. It wasn't that hard I had thought previously, it is sometimes hectic at Palo Alto too, so Oshkosh landing felt quite okay and I can do it again some year when I have next time plane to land there. We purchased this plane from USA and flew it to Finland after Oshkosh over the Atlantic ocean (we have a blog about it: http://n756ds.blogspot.com ).

  • Nice landing. I usually make my worst landing of the year at Oshkosh, although 2009 wasn't bad. You can see it at Vagabond Landing Airventure Oshkosh.

And your sound was much better than mine.

One question: What day of event did you arrive? I came in Sunday morning.

  • We arrived on Friday morning unfortunately because of Kate's IFR check ride schedule and we missed the landing window of Thursday evening.

We planned to spend the whole week but ended up being there only for three days. We camped at Camp Cozy in the woods, which I consider to be the best place to camp at in Oshkosh, all the interesting people just happen to be there, including but not limited to, for example space craft designers.

  • It is very easy this way: we purchased smallest microphone we could find from Fry's electronics (it is a Sony mic) and removed the outer shell from it. A very tine metal capsule was exposed. This is so small that it fits inside the headset and does not push too much against the ear. It comes with connector that fits to the microphone connector of Canon EOS 5D Mark II. This way recording is also very realistic: what you hear is what I heard on the plane exactly.

  • I'll have to have a look at Camp Cozy this year, as I hadn't heard of it before. Being in the woods would be nice.

Good thing about Oshkosh is it really does fit the description, "It's All Good."

  • that was cool! atc seemed pretty friendly too :)

  • I have been looking all over to find out how to record ATC on a video camera during flight. Give me heads if ya can.
