By Anthony Holborne, Elizabethan composer and contemporary of Dowland. Not an obscure guy, but his music should be played more often.
The woman next to me onstage in the video is my wife and partner, Lorraine Saltre, in our professional Duo: The Saltre-Bigelow Duo. She is a spectacular singer. Wanna hear more of us? Go to:

  • Great suit sir!!! I can now see what my playing is missing :)

  • Thank you! As they say, "clothes make the man"...

  • Good to see someone play the Lute with modern guitar technique instead of the inferior, dated Renaissance technique.

I really don't see an advantage of playing the lute with the so called "authentic" technique.

  • I'm glad you like it! I do like lute played with such technique- I prefer listening to Bream and others like him- but I like many of the "authentic" players, too. I'll leave it to those familiar with approach to defend it, save my saying the approach certainly is defensible; there are many who have achieved stunning results.

  • Most Excellent

  • Most appreciated! Just enjoyed checking out your videos, I'll comment over there.

  • Renaissance technique lets the hand lie in a better position relative to the double strings as your finger can come across at a better angle .Also in runs the thumb and and index finger work more efficiently believe it or not in that position. Also the hand is supported by the pinky and allows more control of the fingers working on the high guage low tension strings.

I still love breams sound I shouldnt say thinner rather a more brilliant sound than Odette who has warmer sound

  • Bream's playing and sound sucks.

  • Is that a seven course lute?

  • This is awesome! :)

  • this man makes ladies moist as Poseidon himself...

  • Fantastic!!!

  • what a show!

  • Great playing! Nice sounding lute! As a luthier and a bit of a player, I'd love to know what kind of strings you're using. Anyhow, the performance was so enjoyable I have to complain the tune is just too short.

  • @guitareleven Well said. Naked people rarely have any influence on society.

  • @guitareleven could you perhaps explain the difference to me, as i am but a simple viol player who knows nothing of these lute playing debates but is terribly curious...

  • This, ladies and gentlemen, is the shizzle.
