No excuse for animal abuse, how poor people may be. There are always other options. As for wealthy fretful foreigners, Indonesian government and people should be very grateful to them. Indonesians in general don't do a very good job in taking care of their country!

@vanessalampardallen I don't think you do "understand about the poverty of the people." Otherwise you might appreciate why concern for animal welfare--especially such a narrow type of mistreatment of one monkey in one country--is a luxury for people with nothing else left to worry about. God knows what these people will have to do to feed their children if this source of livelihood is taken from them by fretful, wealthy foreigners.
