Short film done for the 2008 National Film Challenge, held the weekend of October 24-27, 2008.

The genre we randomly received was Road Movie, but we added Musical to it entirely on our own. Our required elements were:

Prop: A net
Character: Alex Watkins, Chiropractor
Line of Dialogue: "Darn the Luck"

We had a blast doing it. Hope you enjoy it.

  • Very nice! Good luck... see you in FL.

  • very cute! We got musical too

  • wow, quite a risk to try a musical in this type of competition, particularly when you didn't need to do it. But good filmmaking is about risks, and I think you came up with a really cool story that did actually benefit from the use of song. The leaving her on the side of the road was a bit harsh, but what can you do. I also did road movie for eastern time zone, good luck in the competition.

  • GREETINGS FROM ANOTHER TIME ZONE, nice musical.

    good luck in the competition

  • Hey skastupid,

Thanks for your comments. We learned a lot about this kind of production, but I think I'm much better at music arrangement than as a commando songwritter. We really needed instruments and at least one musician on the shoot. Trying to compose music after the fact is immposible, especially when the songs were sung a-cappela with no pitch pipe in site.

Next time, I'm pushing for an action film. Even if we pull musical, it's going to be the music of explosions and gunfire.

  • We had the same assignment with a different genre. I really loved the idea of a chiropractor completely fixing a woman with horrific twisting and bending. I liked the story you crafted (especially knowing the time frame constraints) but I think it might have been more effectively told without the musical elements. Or maybe it needed more instrument support... Either way, cool little film.
