This striking Radiolab video made by Everynone was inspired by Radiolab's Desperately Seeking Symmetry episode. Filmmakers Will Hoffman, Daniel Mercadante, and Julius Metoyer III play with our yearning for balance, and reveal how beautiful imperfect matches can be.

Symmetry means balance. Dark balancing out light and good balancing out bad. Salt to balance out Pepper. Digital balancing out atomic. Even things that are similar are conflicting. You may see two different clocks, I see old vs. new. But that's just my take on it.

this isn't symmetry, mostly these are complements and dualities. Cool video though

There's equilibrium and symmetry. Complementary items and catalysts shift systems toward favorable equilibrium. But polarity is not necessarily symmetry. Most of the slides are perceived antitheses, while others are perceived analogs. But sermons and laboratories are not antitheses and are hardly analogs. zero is neither equal to nor the opposite of one. We try so hard to get everything cut down to perfectly equal tolerances of materials but it seems impossible to get a true symmetric crystal.

1.The quality of being made up of exactly similar parts facing each other or around an axis: this series has a line of symmetry through its center | a crystal structure with hexagonal symmetry. 2. correct or pleasing proportion of the parts of a thing: an overall symmetry making the poem pleasant to the ear.

    • Physics & Mathematics a law or operation where a physical property or process has an equivalence in two or more directions.
