@AghDH He doesn't miss mate. After Kf2 Qg1 is not mate because Carlsen has a Rook on d1. The Rook is a little hard to see.

@AghDH Doubtful that he wasn't aware of it. Someone as good as Nakamura would have caught something so simple as that. Perhaps you're reading the board wrong, who knows. One things for certain, if there was a quicker checkmate, then Nakamura just avoided it to savor his victory a little more. It makes sense if you look back in game 2 at 09:53 where he seems to savor his victory there as well.

8:53 Nakamura misses checkmate twice. Not only that he took about 3x the moves he needed to win the game. Moving the knight was the dumbest thing imaginable.
Either checkmating with his Queen or taking Carlson's Bishop with the Rook then taking taking the Carlson's Queen after that would of both ended the game. /facepalm hardcore.

8:53 Nakamura misses the checkmate twice. He's good but far from the best.
I presume they have 5 minutes each...?

they have 3min and + 2 sec. I'm sorry that you don't see the time - it's thrilling! In game 2 at one point Carlsen suddenly discovers that he has just 7sec left, this drops to 1 sec - but then he moves like crazy and actually gains some time..
