The crazy thing about it is that Chris Youlden was the lead singer of the band, at the time 'Blue Matter' was recorded. They already had some studio tracks recorded, but when they went to do the live portion, at the last minute before a USA tour, Chris came down with Tonsillitis and Lonesome Dave had to fill in. Did a pretty good job, I'd say, lol........

That opening riff...one of the greatest in rock and roll history....I saw them in 71,or 72 at the Eastown in Detroit with Black Sabbath opening. I think it was 5 bucks to get in.... Sabbath's first album was taking off, and they were unbelievable( the best of the 3 times i saw them) but Savoy Brown was better. With Chris Youldens or without him, they were always an excellent live band.

..............and right now, today, 1/13/12, this rocks... and will continue to do so. For ever. From a 59yo rocker that loves it all

Saw them headlining a tour with Humble Pie opening at the Fillmore at the Carousel ballroom....Kim Simmonds; well; ain't much to say: OMG.....burned better than Clapton; and tastier; faster: and way more original....more jazz in his playing too....Hendrix copped a few things from this kid....

Guys, just saw Kim and Savoy in Whippany NJ at a Ukrainian church concert hall seating about 120 people!!! That's right. So these concerts are not completely gone. As I said on another post, it was like seeing them in my living room. Kim and the band were awesome. And guess what, they ended the regular show with Louisiana Blues. Perfect. The song gives me chills every time I listen to to it. Met Kim after the show. He lives stateside. One of the greats no doubt but highly under appreciated.

Sadly...yet amazingly...in 1978 or 79 I walked into the El Macombo...in Toronto..
This is just a big bar, sectioned off into 3 or 4 rooms inside..and is famous for The Rolling Stones doing a portion of their live album there, in 1975..unannounced.
..And there...on a Thursday night..in a small room for perhaps 50 seats.in the middle of a stage up front sat a drum machine and a chair..
.then Kim Simmonds sat down and laid into live Blues and Funk for 2 hrs playing to perhaps 25.
Phenomenal!

Great! I would be hard-pressed to choose between Kim Simmonds and Pete Haycock from Climax Blues Band. Both were British blues/rock at its best.
(No offense to the Clapton, Green, McPhee fans ((as am I)), but this is just straight ahead power punch rock/blues.

I see people here pining for the good old days of blues fired rock. I feel the same way. Savoy Brown was among the best in the genre along with Mayall, Cream and Ten Years After. I saw Savoy Brown and later Kim Simmonds at the World Trade Center concert series about a week prior to 9//11. Can't forget that.
Anyway, we are fortunate to have YouTube to revive this material. There ought to be a Sirius radio station for this kind of stuff. Maybe it exists. What a freakin' solo.
I saw Savoy Brown in San Jose. 70 or 71at the fairgrounds. They were headliners. The Small Faces with Rod went before them. Both bands were smoking. I think Buddy Miles opened. Those kind of concerts are gone.

Heard Eric Burden do this one with the Animals back when I wuz a tiny tater tot. Then heard The Blues Project's cover. How to top that I said to myself quietly wondering alone with my gramophone windowPane. Then Savoy brings it to town. Have mercy
This tune is ... immortal
