Music from Australia and New Zealand in the year 1975:

Skyhooks performing on GTK the track 'Smut', taken from the 1974 album 'Living In The Seventies'.

Note: This track caused the 'Living In The 70's' Album to be banned from commercial radio. The controversy helped boost the record's sales. Journalists often asked Skyhooks to explain the meaning behind the song - an ode to masturbating in a movie cinema to some John Wayne movie(???).

Honestly, i'm not familiar with this group. Musically, not really my cup of tea. However i was compelled to watch and listen. In the same way i reacted to seeing Alex Harvey Band, Roxy Music and Alice Cooper for the 1st time. Very unique and interesting.

I saw them open for Uriah Heep in the US in '76. I don't think the audience knew what hit them!

They were a very diverse and talented bunch of guys that almost appeared out of nowhere in 1973 and dominated Australian airwaves for about 10 years, broke up when they burned out, got back together in the early 90's and did it again for another album's worth of stuff.

Skyhooks singlehandedly changed the face and sound of Oz rock in 1973 with Living In The 70's.

Unless you were in Australia at that time, it's hard to comprehend what a fresh group these guys were.

Despite it's dodgy lyrics and dodgy subject matter I've always loved this song, my favourite Skyhooks song, reminds me of great times in Panmure, Victoria in 1980
