Naples, Maine Causeway Construction Schedule Posted; Big Change Coming to Maine's Sebago Lakes Region

Eliminate the old swing bridge that connects the Naples, Maine Causeway between Long Lake and Brandy Pond and replace it with a permanent span has begun.

For years, the swing bridge has halted traffic while allowing watercraft of all shapes and sizes to pass between Long Lake and Brandy Pond. Now, a new bridge construction project has begun that will allow most boats and all vehicular traffic to proceed unabated in either direction, day and night, every day of the year.

While the debate over the bridge has, at times, been contentious, now that the project has finally been decided upon and begun, all eyes are on its progress and eventual completion and discussion is more focussed on what the end result will be.

After the opening of the new bridge to two way traffic, construction and deconstruction will continue. The old swing bridge will be dismantled and boat traffic will commence by Memorial Day 2012. Paving will be completed throughout the summer of 2012 as well as plantings and landscaping, and general cleanup. The project will come to full completion on May 15, 2013.
