There are eight DTV transmitters in this one room ranging in power from 100kw up to 240kw. This is one of only three DTV transmitter sites in the US that are combined in this fashion. Shot with a Kodak Zi6

  • Transmitters have gotten more efficient over the years and so have final amplifier toobes. I used to work on an RCA TTU-100 100 kw UHF transmitter that took up ten times the floor space that any one of these transmitters occupies. These transmitters are also much higher power.

  • Yes, Its on top where you can see all the blinking lights... just south of the Kennicot smelter chimney.

  • Is this on the top of Farnsworth peak, with the blinking lights, that we can see, at night, on the oquirh mountains, in the Salt Lake Valley, or is it someplace else, in Utah?

  • @priceclairtyson Yes! It's on top of Farnsworth. There is only one other similar facility like it in the US where this many transmitters are packed into one building.

  • I prefer the old transmitters with big glowing tubes and tetrodes or klystron outputs.

  • you now how some transmitters have a small amount of hum to indacate a problem?? There is a problem with DTV, what happens when the power goes out in an emergency and you cant operate your TV becouse of the converter? Most analog TVs about 10 in have battery backups

  • kinda excellent stuff LOL
