I prefer the old transmitters with big glowing tubes and tetrodes or klystron outputs.

you now how some transmitters have a small amount of hum to indacate a problem?? There is a problem with DTV, what happens when the power goes out in an emergency and you cant operate your TV becouse of the converter? Most analog TVs about 10 in have battery backups

Transmitters have gotten more efficient over the years and so have final amplifier toobes. I used to work on an RCA TTU-100 100 kw UHF transmitter that took up ten times the floor space that any one of these transmitters occupies. These transmitters are also much higher power.

Is this on the top of Farnsworth peak, with the blinking lights, that we can see, at night, on the oquirh mountains, in the Salt Lake Valley, or is it someplace else, in Utah?

@priceclairtyson Yes! It's on top of Farnsworth. There is only one other similar facility like it in the US where this many transmitters are packed into one building.
