Alright, the symbol on his chest represents the house of El and he got this from Jor-El when Clark disobeyed his orders. And Clark is on red Kryptonite to try to lose the guilt of Jonathan and Martha losing their baby in an explosion( created by Clark when he tried to destroy his spaceship to get rid of Jor-El). Oh, you can also check out Season 2 Finale Exodus and Season 3 Premiere Exile about what I'm talking about.

actually the symbol on his chest is for the house of el. Thats why zod and everyone else have different symbols. It was the red k that stripped him of his inabitions. He was not actually kal-el here, he was clark kent on red k.

Apparently noone watches smallville. This is not Kal-el. Its Clark Kent on red krytonite. His father made a deal with jor-el in order to bring him home and stop his rampage. The episode is season 3 episode 1. Its called Exile. ;)
