What a stupid newbie. Akira is an all time classic with some of the most beautifully hand drawn animation in anime's existence. You clearly have no business judging anime cuz you're fucking stupid.

I've been a fan of anime for almost ten years now and have seen enough anime where I can judge what could be the best or getting more popularity than necessary because of fans not getting enough exposure to other anime titles. And of course, I'm free to say whatever I please considering we live in a country with freedom of speech so I can judge as I please and saying that I'm "fucking stupid" won't stop me from saying what I want.

I have been watching anime for nearly 35 years and I found Akira to be wayyyyyyyyy overrated. I was pumped up beforfe I was it for the first time, but I got bored half way through I thought the visual art was good, but I did not care about the story. Fancy that! Judging a movie on its story (which I noticed you never mentioned)

@mx3sid1 Akira has definitely been surpassed, what makes Akira great is it was the originator of high quality anime and became the blueprint for an entire industry. Akira is like the Beatles, it was innovative, and still is pretty good, but it's been done a lot better a lot of times since.

You're 26,so you were 2 years old when the anime Akira was released.The fact is Akira is,and will forever be immortalized.I was born in 1971,witnessed the birth of anime.There wasn't even the word anime back in the day.It was called japanimation.I just would like to say it's bad etiquette to argue,disrespect,or put down any of this great form of entertainment.Dubs,subs,popula­r,unpopular.Otaku,Weeaboo.Bott­om line,we should all be humble fans like me.I roadrace sportbikes because of Akira.

Doesn't matter if you've been a fan of anime for 10 years. You called Akira overrated and that pretty much shows how much you really know about Anime. Its not like we are talking Naruto or Bleach here. If it wasn't for Akira, anime wouldn't even be as popular as it is today in the US. It was Akira that introduced Anime to the world, and Ghost in the Shell that revolutionized it. So Akira deserves all the recognition it gets.
