It made sense to primitive peoples, whose sense of justice was no more sophisticated than 'an eye for an eye'.

"Why do you think it doesn't make a lot of sense"

Because it's a book of fairy tales. It NEVER made any sense.

"abstain from trying to define God"

Well, there you go. This is not an accusation, but it should be noted that this means you intentionally try to keep your god-concept from being testable even in theory. Like you really don't want your belief to be amenable to scientific investigation.

    "without reverting to offensive words"

Well, you've got a point there. Or rather, why are we discussing this at all? After all, it's not as if science's going to adjust its views to popular demand.

"I don't hold much stock in mysticism."

And rejecting scientific explanations and then replacing them with a huge question-mark is not mysticism?

Dawkins states that modern life has the "appearance of being designed", not "created". Read anything into that you like: Dawkins, as he himself on numerous occasions explained, does not think lifeforms were designed - just that the processes that lead to their development gave them the *appearance* of being designed. And, as Dawkins will also point out, in many instances quite poorly designed.

And I already said that we do not now have the practical means to test them. That does not mean that they're not testable in principle: both make specific statements about the nature of reality that, if the state of knowledge and technology permits, allow testing.

So while these models don't (yet) have the status of scientific theory (meaning a well-substantiated explanatory model), they are valid avenues of scientific investigation.

It's really not that hard. Perhaps a diagram would help?

You do know the bible has been translated over the years since it was made, and that the true texts have been altered and misunderstood? Why do you think it doesn't make a lot of sense.I forgot the name of this game but it goes like this, you're in a circle or a line and somebody tells you something and you whisper to the other person beside you they do the same to the person them and some on all the way to the last person, by then, somebody has already messed up.
