"Why Begins With W" is a diary authored by either a girl or a boy but that is only a part of the book's mystery! The author is something of a misfit: arrogant, schooled in the martial arts, and schooled at home for years, he or she is suddenly thrust into a meat-grinder called an American high school. In the first week violence hits the school in the form of a murder-suicide. The Lynchburg police solve the case quickly: killer commits murder, then commits suicide. Case closed. Or is it? The author is approached by a witness who says the police got it all wrong! And the more the teenaged author investigates, the more it seems the official story smells like day-old road-kill. Something is rotten in this Lynchburg high school, and the mysteries grow like a snowball rolling down a hill. And the two teenagers who discovered this diary? How do they fit in? "Why Begins With W" offers a razor-sharp slice of American high-school life, whose real mystery is, "Why does this story seem so real?"
