Taking my Hobie AI for a spin in 20-25 knot winds on the Swan river(Perth Australia). Girlfriend Broke her rudder pin on the same day. Top recorded speed 10.9 knots.

  • nice vid , did AI capsize if there are strong wind?

i n going to buy one, is it eazy to replace if rudder pin break? or Ai have any other problem,is it a good kayak?

  • @profly98 There are reports of capsizing when using tramps in extremely strong wind but otherwise it is very stable and unlikely to capsize. Rudder pins are very easy to replace and the only real design flaw is the AI's tendency to submarine.

  • @Dancesux Enjoyed the video. Not sure if the submarining is a "flaw" since the boat is designed for lighter winds. If the your Honda Accord starts rattling at 130 mph, I would not consider this a flaw. Shows the quality of design of the boat in which the limits can be pushed. I did poke around the Hobie site to see if they have a max wind recommendation, but I guess they recommend a little less wind speed if your mast snaps or ama explodes.

  • @ter450 you don't have to have a huge amount of wind for the boat to submarine, if the waves are steep like they are where i sail once you hit 5 knots you start to nosedive.

  • @Dancesux I sailed mine in a 25 knot blow and capsized it,was realy scary cuz i didnt have any idea how to right it, so i took thew mainsheet and it slowly came up,everything was fine but i lost my cooler.

  • @superhobieboy Sorry to hear but glad your ok, were you using tramps?

  • @Dancesux I was using tramps.

  • @Dancesux more a "characteristic" than a flaw. Through is a lot faster than over when it comes to waves. Just a lot wetter as well. ;)

  • I was out in "mine" a couple of weeks ago - it "submarined" downwind at the bottom of 3-4 ft wave - Felt like it was going to "endo" (didn't of course) - but heart-stopping! - Best invention ever!

  • wow mate at Perth best i sail around that area every weekend but i sail a racing dinghy

  • I just got my tandem about a week ago. I am in love with it.. I've been a long time catamaran sailor, windsurfer, big boat, etc... I have been sailing my yak almost daily.. Light wind, medium wind, some heavy.. Too damn much fun.. This is the best money I've spent in along time.....

  • thank alot ,mate.
