Gene did a great job, but it honestly sounds like you are watching a whole different show when he announced it. Rod Roddy had almost the same kind of timbre as Johnny did, which made him a logical successor (I hesitate to say "replacement" since nobody could really replace Johnny).
But it sure was great that Gene & others substituted until they could find a permanent announcer. I would bet since they were doing it for one of their own, they took no money for the job.

@ericandy88 I guess Gene Wood filled in for the late Johnny O. after Family Feud w/Richard Dawson left abc, plus, Gene Wood was not only interim announcer for the CBS Version of TPIR, but also, the syndicated version with Tom Kennedy

@ericandy88 Yeah, I would have loved Gene to take over for John but I do agree that Rod was a great successor. Everyone has to succeed someone but they will never replace them. At least for a time, we got to hear the other popular Goodson-Todman announcer on The Price Is Right.
