This was a cleverly done movie. And of all cities in which to land, San Francisco was probably about the most perfect one.

If he had landed in Texas instead of San Francisco they would have traveled back in time

Interesting how in this movie, Jack the Ripper mentions that anyone can buy a rifle in 1979 America (as if that's a bad thing!) But Victorian England was also a place where anyone with the money could buy the most modern weapons available (Brits could own machine guns until 1933!) Once again, the desire to promote a social agenda trumps historical accuracy. or so it would seem.

why would welles wear a deerstalker in the city? Victorian decorum implied such a hat was worn only in the countryside while hunting.

The most underrated movie of all TIME. I so wish I owned the props of the pocket watch and the Time Machine from this film.

oh I agree, there would be no story or not much of it, lol. I was just being silly but that would be such a huge power to have, to just go back and change everything to your liking or would it be like the Butterfly Effect? No matter how much you change for the better, the world needs the balance of the bad side to go with it.

David Warner was perect to play Jack the Ripper. I could even picture Warner inside the Darth Vader costume. Too bad he was too old as he would have been a much better Anakin than Hayden. But then, a banana peel would have been a better Anakin than Hayden.

H.G. couldn't have done those things. It's the Blinovich Limitation Effect. I'm not sure what that means but it's been used in Dr. Who for the last 40 years to explain why characters can't just use time machines like that. Basically, there would be no story.

One of my favorites. I love the scene with the time machine and H.G.'s first-time experience-travelling through time in his own creation. And my second favorite scene of in this film is H.G. chasing Jack both on foot, in an effort to take him back. And Milkos Rozsa music is perfect for the chase scene. My favorite line; "the world has caught up me and SURPASSED ME ! Ninety yeara ago I was a FREAK, now I'm an amateur ! " And isn't that TRUE !
