My opinion is that WT is really good,if u are trained to the bone. It works really well in real life. This is testimony of more then one proffesional bouncer i've met. And they didnt even go deep into the system. Level 1,2,3,basic stuff, trained to the bone.

@CloudsBeyond I will admit though, that much of what is passed out as WC is NONSENSE. NO sense of energy and rooting, which you MUST have in WC. You MUST develop internal strength, as well as flexibility and reduced rigidity, which is not east for obtain.

@Soulblackman the principles to their WC. Everything is dynamic.

@CloudsBeyond ANYONE "making it"t, gets soft and lazy.

@tutanota I think you should be in SOME shape, but the reality is this; if you are in such great shape, to last long on a fight, that fight you'd be in, is TOO long, which means you'll either get killed or arrested. And depending where you live, YOU, the DEFENDER, will have more of a hassle than the ATTACKER. In the street, prepare to fight for ultimate victory/survival.

@chisaoboy correction Wing Chun was developed for Chinese men & women, most of whom are small in height & build to defend themselves; it was developed a few hundred years ago & is a traditional kung fu system, no matter how modern day people try apply it to the street, if you really stick to Wing Chun principles (centreline, etc) -you are doing a traditional system which is very predictable too -how Wing Chun/Wing Tsun people will fight. It contains much unrealistic training & unrealistic moves.

@CloudsBeyond Thank you for your interesting posts. However comparing WC which was developed for self defense on the street, against MMA is an incorrect comparison. WC wasn't created to be used in the octagon against professional fighters. It's for me to use against the idiot hassling me for my money.

@tutanota the street is always different , it is very different to any BS WT training in the kwoon too BUT MMA will prepare you better because you are fighting and working on attributes power speed etc; not practicing traditional kung fu (forms, wooden dolly, lat sao, chi sao, etc) doing nice drills with a partner - most very unrealistic to a REAL fight. MOST in WT can't hit hard but most think they can, go try BS chain punching against good MMA guy see how it works.

@CloudsBeyond The problem w/seminars & demos, is that MOST are predictable; the instructor knows the move coming, and the student will not go all out. As long as the "fights" are not real, this issue will ALWAYS exist in MA. Realize also, that at the end of the day, you don't want anyone to get hurt at a seminar, and that INCLUDES the instructor. IF a WCer earnestly practices w/a Thai or BJJ, he or she can develop the skills to defeat them, Actually, if they're smart, they'll apply
