Dazzle Gives a Speech

Here's a new trick of Dazzle's. :) It was inspired by (who else?) my speech professor!

We actually haven't done many long behaviour chains, so it was interesting to see her work on "easy" behaviours but in a complex setting - if that makes sense...

Some things we found out along the way were:
1) she doesn't like barking! It was really a challenge to get her vocalizing at all.
2) she apparently loves to play tug with notecards.....
3) she hates the idea of walking around the "podium" to orient towards me - she loves to pivot instead!

I taught her this trick with the help of clickers, shaping, and back-chaining. This is about 2 days worth of training.

my BC doesn't like to vocalize either, any tips that worked for you?

@tehrenberg, what worked for Dazzle was to get her really amped up playing & then rewarding her for any noise she made (if you can get them excited enough, most dogs will play growl). Eventually I got her play growls to turn into more of a bark.

Beautiful! I have been working on capturing vocalizations in my dog, but it's really difficult to do, and when I put it into a chain the chain fell apart at the vocalizations! That's such a cute idea, I may try it with my girl someday!
