Distinguished Alumnus Award -- Neil majored in biology at the College and then graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and completed his residency in pediatric optometry and vision therapy at State University of New York. He has practiced optometry in Charleston for more than 38 years and has been a national leader in the field.

SECO International, one of the largest optometry meetings in the world and most comprehensive sources of continuing education for eye care professionals has elected Neil as their president. Neil was recently awarded the South Carolina Optometric Physicians Association's highest honor, Optometrist of the Year. He is a past president of the South Carolina Optometric Association and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. Neil also gives back to his community. He established the Head Start Vision Screening Program in Charleston in 1976. Since then, more than 1000 children are screened through the program each year.

He is actively involved with the Jewish community having served as president of the Jewish Community Center and vice president of the Charleston Jewish Federation. The College of Charleston is also one of Neil's priorities. He serves on the Foundation Board and never misses a College of Charleston basketball game. As you can see, Neil fits the description of Distinguished Alumnus perfectly.
