The GD-X duplicator is an expensive piece of hardware that can copy four GD-R discs at once from a master disc or internal hard drive. Developed jointly by Sega and Cross Systems it allowed easy mass replication for beta testing.

Approximate new price was $15,000 on release and required four GD-Writers each costing several hundred more. Only found at large developers, this is the rarest piece of Dreamcast development hardware.

  • I have a question (please somebody set me straight on this): So this piece of hardware copies disks for a game system that's been defunct for nearly 10 years, right? This is a real question, I'm not a dogging troll. Or is there another functionality, or reason to utilize this machine in the year 2011?

  • @viciousbloodbath The dreamcast dev hardware used a special disc. This allowed the dev company to make 4 copies at once so it could be play tested. The machine dates to 1999.

  • Sony Vegas is as or more powerful then the mac video editing software.

  • @eyesofnova I find it not as intuitive.

  • This is a lot of work for only 200 views.. please spread the word!

  • GD-ROM is the burned disc. The recordable media is the GD-R (R for Recordable). This applies to CD's, DVD's, HD DVD', BD', etc.
