GD-ROM is the burned disc. The recordable media is the GD-R (R for Recordable). This applies to CD's, DVD's, HD DVD', BD', etc.

I have a question (please somebody set me straight on this): So this piece of hardware copies disks for a game system that's been defunct for nearly 10 years, right? This is a real question, I'm not a dogging troll. Or is there another functionality, or reason to utilize this machine in the year 2011?

@viciousbloodbath The dreamcast dev hardware used a special disc. This allowed the dev company to make 4 copies at once so it could be play tested. The machine dates to 1999.
