Cairns, fairies, a hobbit house, and glacier moraines surround my house deep in the Appalachian Mountains. Because my ancestors settled here from Ireland and Scotland, these mountains call deeply to my soul.

This morning it was -7° C. and the wind was howling. The clouds had frozen on the trees and rocks during the night and it was beautiful and very eerie ... a different kind of hoarfrost than usual. I tried to capture the feel of it on film but the light was rather flat.

This video was made especially for my wonderful friends at MetelProductions. This isn't the rock field ... I'll film that for you in the spring!

  • It looks good. Im a Cairncross living in the UK. Places like this have a draw on the blood of my Scotish ancestors.

  • @peronitube Thanks so much for your lovely comment. Part of my family heritage is Scottish also.

  • The mountains and hills our just our thing, us Scots.

  • I just read a great book called Hillbilly Tales from The Smokey Mountains by P Graham and V Humphries! i live in England not the USA, just wanted to share it with folks.

  • can I ask what approximate area this is? What state - Tn, WV, KY? It is really a beautiful place?

  • That area, especially the valley looks like the place where my dad grew up and where I still have family.

  • Yes, this is indeed, very reminiscent of the beautiful Irish countryside.

I lived in the Dublin mountains for a time, and I have great memories of the warmth and intelligence of the Irish people, and the natural pace of life.

Both the people and the atmosphere reminded me a lot of West Africa.

You are blessed with that scenery in Virginia.

    Have a happy day... Peace.....
