Golden Compass - Restored Ballon Scene (Northern Lights)

As discussed in one of my previous videos, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-HDjGM0lwE , I'm a huge fan of the His Dark Materials book series. New Line attempted to make a movie of the first book in this series: the golden compass (or as the book is called in the UK - Northern Lights).

Due to cutting off the ending and reordering many of the events in the film, the film does not finished and generally has caused much dissapointment to fans. Which is a shame, as the film constantly feels like there is much potential.

This clip shows a rough video that I've edited together myself. This scene would be how lyra helps save the children and then lands in the hands of the panzer bajorn (sp?) or as the film calls them: ice bears. This is not how the order plays out in the final film, so if you've not read the book this maybe a little confusing.

This has been pieced together from the trailers, videos from the computer game, sound effects from the film, and the official soundtrack for the backing music. I've included a short intro and outro clip so people can grasp an understanding of where this scene might take place.

REMEMBER: This video is very rough, and is not an official edit of the movie. This is a FAN MADE edit.

@xLyraxBelacquax thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed them. I am working on the full film, but that's unlikely to be made public however the 'deleted' scenes are still being worked on and redone. For the latest updates put in to google northern lights fanedit. Or look on the forum on the hdm fansite bridge to the stars :)

Erm that's an edited scene that is actually in the movie... I just removed them talking about how Lyra has been captured.

There's an improved version of this scene being put up in the next day or so :)

I appreciate these edits. It makes me feel better that there are other discerning Golden Compass fans irritated at New Line's portrayal.

they could make a great movie, but not. The movie seems so fast and "simple".

The only right thing is the choise of characters: Dakota, Eva Green, Nicole, Daniel Craig...they are perfect.

This is awesome!!!!!!!! :) :) I can't believe you made it!!!! :) Can I make a suggestion? (just because I think this is the only other scene that matters in the end of the movie). Maybe you could add in the bit with Roger asking Lyra what the Alethiometer's telling her, and then she says: "It's telling me about my father. It says I'm bringing him what he needs." This sort of alludes towards what Lord Asriel might want, if you know what I mean! Well, love it and I can't wait for more!!!

This wide shot of the fortress is amazing, I don't remember seeing it in the final cut. The theatrical cut is a "cheaper" version, hehe.

MAGNIFICENT, now everything makes sense! I did not read the book before watching the movie so i didn't even notice how nonsense the theatrical cut is! But now i see exactly, thanks to your awesome video, what new line actually ...
