OK, so when the wastewater enters the wastewater plant, it passes first into the grit channel which is aerated (think Aero bar, but in moving real time). As a result, the heavy particles like grit (i.e., sand) drop out very quickly and stay there in the bottom until we unwater the channel, and start clamming it out. This video is a little thin on subtlety; no beauty or magic here. It is 100% moving mass from A to B. First, west to east as it is removed from the channel into the hopper. Then it is washed so that anything biological gets removed from the grit and put back into the liquid stream where it can be treated, and finally dried. Then north to south from the hopper into the bin. Then some truck comes and drives the bin to a landfill in Michigan. Your welcome, Michigan!
