I'm pretty sure desintagrating is what happens when the waiter at the Italian restaurant puts cheese on your food. That, or it might be the act of screeching chalk on a blackboard.
Disintegrating is " to break or decompose into constituent elements, parts, or small particles," usually by means of some kind of energy weapon like a ray gun.
