Many thousands of Pakistanis displaced have returned to their homes in the Swat Valley and Buner. But hundreds of thousands still remain in neighboring areas, such as Mardan District. Much remains to be done and much more funding is needed as the displaced return to damaged homes, schools and basic infrastructure. The relative stability that has allowed them to return is tenuous -- the crisis, and Concerns response, are ongoing.
Dorothy Blane, Concerns Country Director in Pakistan, captures the implications: We have to provide more. Otherwise we're just sending people back to fail. They're going to be driven out again by the lack of basic services, so I think it's absolutely vital that we remember that our commitment to them is not just during the time that they're displaced, but also during their return.
