Green Groups Reject Emissions Trading Scheme: More than 150 climate change groups gathered in Canberra for a historic national climate summit. Climate action groups from across the country have united to oppose the passage of the Australian Government's carbon trading scheme through Parliament, saying the targets are a international disgrace, and will serve to undermine the international negotiations later this year in Copenhagen. Many groups are planning to ramp up direct actions against the coal industry in the next 12 months to create a powerful community opposition to government inaction.
