Here you see Trinidad Catagua, Master spinner and weaver from Zapote, Manabí. She is spinning using the stationary tripod, or "rueca" which has a notch at the top of the distaff to catch and retain her stripe of cotton.
Trinidad has an efficient re-winding technique where she winds the thread spun at the tip of the spindle onto her fingers in a figure 8 motion, and then releases it, rewinding that thread onto the center part of the spindle.
