This shows the use of a Ladakhi phang, the supported spindle traditionally used by women for sheep's wool. Winding on here - for more spinning action see "Lhamo spins more"
This and the afore mentioned Tibetan spinning is fascinating and lovely towatch. Am working my way through several spinning videos now. Does anyone know what ancient arab people used for spinning? Am trying to find info on that. Thanks if someone can direct me.
@amaranthim All I know is that Bedouins have used suspended spindles with cross-shaped whorls in this century, and Bedouin culture has not changed much over the centuries.
Actually, she butterflies it onto her hand, then re-winds it onto the spindle lower down, repeating this as she spins until the spindle is full. Later on the singles are wound off two spindles into a two-stranded ball, and plied from that.
Your two videos are beautiful, but not long enough to really get an idea of the technique used, or a clear picture of the spindle. I really want to know more!

wonderful example of Andean plying....taking the already spun fiber/yarn off the spindle in preparation of plying it onto itself.
