Yes, that little spur that was right in front of you.. it is where the manned helpers used to wait to couple onto trains (this is before DPUs)
Thus the Railroad station name of "Helper".
Just a bit of historical trivia. There were times when two sets of SD45s/SD40s would crowd into that siding waiting for the next train to help..
