The Republican's "Cut, Cap and Balance" plan is the Ryan plan on steroids. It's a political stunt with serious consequences for the country.

This legislation preserves tax cuts for the rich, subsidies for oil and gas companies and special tax deals for items like corporate jets. And the Republican presidential candidates have committed to Cut, Cap and Balance.

It requires deeper spending cuts than the Ryan plan. This means even more devastating cuts to clean energy, education and health care for children, people with disabilities and seniors.

In the first year, Republicans claim this legislation would result in a spending cut of more than $100 billion. Done this quickly, cuts of this magnitude will have a serious negative impact on the economy.

It doesn't stop there - after these unbalanced cuts, this legislation requires spending caps in future years with significant consequences.

The legislation would require deep Medicare cuts, making health care for seniors more expensive and less accessible

And it will require significant cuts in Social Security benefits, breaking our promise to America's seniors.

This policy will reduce clean energy funding up and cut infrastructure funding.

And it would cut programs for the most vulnerable, like food stamp benefits and Medicaid.
