She and Ted Collins picked all her song and definitely had an ear for hits. She loved singing and that love shines through all her recordings. From the beginning she was very confident of her talents and abilities. She was very take-charge and authoritative and a perfectionist behind the scenes. But the lady the public saw was also truly Kate: Friendly, unassuming, interested in everyone and everything, and bright bright bright.

Never heard this before-charming-I could envision a Busby Berkley production number with Kate and umbrella twirling flappers!

I hope it stops raining for you. We had that problem here about a month ago and I was glad to see it go after 2.5 weeks of rain.

I've been walking in the rain for the past week. Lots of flooding and extensive damage in parts of Scotland, but this charming post cheers me up no end.
Thanks for sharing.

I really like her early recordings better than later because the orchestras and background music was great, and she could sing. She made a couple early ones I love - - "I DON'T KNOW WHY I LOVE YOU LIKE I DO" and "I APOLOGIZE. Tommy

Great song. Kate Smith could certainly sing. I have some recordings of her from the late 30's recorded direct from her radio show. She sounds quite young in this recording and her voice certainly got more powerful as she got older.
